Franklin Park, Illinois – On Friday morning, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed a man. Authorities allege the man drove his vehicle at the agents as they were performing their duties.

ICE officials say the incident began with “targeted law enforcement activity” and were trying to make an arrest. That is when the man allegedly drove his vehicle to elude authorities which caused an agent to be dragged. To stop the activity, the agent fired his weapon and the driver crashed his vehicle into a stationary truck.

According to a statement from DHS, “During a vehicle stop, the suspect resisted and attempted to drive his vehicle into the arrest team, striking an officer and subsequently dragging him as he fled the scene. Fearing for his life, the officer discharged his firearm and struck the subject.”

The ICE agent and the man identified as Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, were transported to an area hospital. Villegas-Gonzalez was pronounced dead. The ICE agent sustained serious injuries and is expected to recover.
