In the Brighton Park neighborhood on Chicago’s southwest side, Border Patrol agents shot a woman who they say was driving one of ten cars who “boxed them in.”
Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the Department of Homeland Security said the agents were conducting a patrol when ten cars rammed their vehicle and boxed them in. “Agents fired defensive shots.” According to McLaughlin, that is when they discovered the woman was armed with a semi-automatic firearm.
After the incident, approximately 100 protesters gathered and the agents began firing pepper balls and tear gas. Skirmishes between the group and the agents went on for several hours.

McLaughlin said the woman drove herself to the hospital for treatment. This was contradicted by the Chicago Fire Department who said she was found at South 35th Street and California Avenue and taken in fair condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
McLaughlin also said “no law enforcement officers were seriously injured.
Today, President Trump announced 300 national guard members will be deployed to Chicago amid the rising tensions.
