The intersection at Harlem Avenue and 99th Street in Chicago Ridge has been a standing concern for area residents. According to police, over 150 citations have been issued there since December 2023. A 22 year old man died in a collision there over Labor Day weekend.

Police were called to the location at 10pm on Sunday evening. They found two vehicles had collided and multiple injured people at the scene. The 22 year old man was a passenger in one of the vehicles and was later pronounced dead.

“CRPD understands the community’s ongoing concerns regarding safety at the intersection of 99th Street and Harlem Avenue. Our officers are committed to addressing these issues and making Harlem Avenue safer for all drivers,” police said in a news release.

Area residents have begun a petition to change the traffic signals at the intersection and have accumulated over 2000 signature so far. The petition will be presented to the village board which is on the agenda for the next board meeting.
